Long Distance Love

Hello long distance lovers!

Let’s face it, Long distance is hard! But if you’re venturing down the narrow path, then your relationship must be one you cherish, and are willing to go the distance (literally) for!

Whether it be work or study that has separated you for a specific duration, or it be that you have yet to meet face to face, here are some tips to make your LDR smooth sailin’!

1. Communication

Communication is key! When you are physically together, body language and subtle facial expressions are all you need to understand each other.
However, if you’re on the phone, or even on Skype, it’s harder to read each other.
It will be a bit more work, but if you verbalise how you are feeling, you’ll be on the same page!
Texts can be so ambiguous at times, and can spark a few fires without anyone’s intention.
‘I’m good’ versus ‘I’m good!’ See the difference?

So take a second or two longer and express a bit more, it will save you a lot of misunderstandings!

2. Date Night

So what, if you’re not in the same continent? Date nights are crucial!
Grab some popcorn and watch the same movie whilst on Skype.
Play fun games and do some couple tags for a laugh.
Or if you’re the kind that likes to go all out; dress up for each other like you would on a regular date!
So what, if you’re sitting in front of a screen in a fancy suit and tie? Your partner will appreciate the effort.

The point is to make memories together, even if you can’t go to the beach or the countryside.

3. Culture Shock

Your partner might be from a different culture than yours, and even if they aren’t from a different country, every family has their own culture and lifestyle.
Maybe they celebrate festivals that you don’t, join in and boost their festive cheer!
Maybe they speak another language, show some interest and learn a couple of useful phrases along the way!
Send your partner cute care packages with yummy snacks they’ve never eaten, they’ll love to try new things!

So learn about your partner! Be a part of their world and they’ll feel much closer to you!

4. Independent

Look at the distance in a positive light, you and your partner have space to grow independently.
If your partner is busy trying to finish school, or is trying to get their fitness to the next level, don’t feel neglected! Use that time for your own self improvement!
The best part about grinding hard all day is that when you both are done, you’ll have each other to relax and unwind with.
Share your success and build each other up, motivation from the one you love can take you a long way!

I’m sure you both want to be the dynamic couple that conquers the world, so give your partner some room to work on themselves, and do the same!

5. Same boat

When you can’t spend time together, you miss your partner. They miss you too!
When you fight, and feel sad and alone, they do too!
Guess what? You’re both in the same boat. That distance is the same from either side.
So be kinder, more understanding, and don’t say or do something to your partner that would hurt you if they did it to you.
Trust that they feel the same way about you, as you do about them, this requires a lot of positive thinking on both fronts.

I’ll say it again pals, Long distance is hard! But at the end of the day, feelings trump distance and love conquers all! (Too cheesy?)

When your long distance finally ends, you’ll come out a much stronger, more trusting and stable couple.

Nothing is difficult if you give it your all! Good luck love birds!

  2. Great! I love everything you wrote here and I confirm it because I’m in LDR for some time and things actually do work as you described! If there is love, everything is possible! Thank you!
